Do Christians and Muslims Worship the Same God?

An open Bible lit softly against a dark background

There is a lot of confusion about whether Christians and Muslims worship the same God. And right now, there is a growing push to convince Christians that the Isa of the Qur’an is the Jesus of the Bible. Dark spiritual forces are working to spread this confusion. It seems that “Chrislam,” the merging of Christianity and Islam into one practice, will be a major push in the name of “peace.”

Let’s break it down.

“Allah” and God’s name

It’s true that Allah is the Arabic word for God. If you read a Christian Bible in Arabic, you would find the word “Allah” referring to the Christian God. But the personal name of the Christian God is YHWH (Yahweh, or Yehovah; we don’t know the exact vowels). “God” is His title, not His name. In Islam, the personal name of their god is Allah.

More importantly, every religion has a “god.” Just because two religions use the word doesn’t mean they worship the same being. That’s as silly as assuming that because you and I both call a woman “Mom,” we must be talking about the same woman.

God has a Son

Muslims will often say they worship the same God as Christians. But the Christian God is the triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In Islam, belief in the Trinity is a grave heresy, and in countries governed by Sharia law, converting to it can be punishable by death.

So if the Christian God has a Son named Yeshua, and the Muslim god does not, how can they be the same being? The Vatican’s official position is that Muslims, Christians, and Jews all worship the same God, while acknowledging that each faith defines Him differently. But “the same God with different definitions” makes no sense to me. If two people describe the same person in completely contradictory ways, at most one of them actually knows who that person is. The god of Islam, by definition, in his character, commands, and scriptures, is completely different from Yehovah, the God of the Bible.

Isa is not Jesus

When the disciples asked Jesus about the signs of the end of the age, the first thing He said was, “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many” (Matthew 24:4–5).

Muslims call Isa the Messiah. They believe he was sinless, that he was born miraculously of the virgin Mary, that he ascended to Heaven, and that he will return to earth to defeat the antichrist.

But they don’t believe He is the Son of God. They don’t believe He is God, since they reject the Trinity entirely. They don’t believe He died and rose again, and they don’t believe He was the final sacrificial Lamb whose blood covers our sins. There is no cleansing from sin through Jesus in Islam.

In Islam, Isa is a servant of Allah sent to promote the message of Islam. Islamic tradition teaches that when he returns, he will “break the cross” and abolish every faith but Islam (Sahih al-Bukhari 3448). And the Qur’an says plainly:

  • “They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him” (Qur’an 4:157).
  • Those who say God is the Messiah, son of Mary, have disbelieved (Qur’an 5:17; 5:72).
  • “Fight those who do not believe in Allah” (Qur’an 9:29).

This counterfeit Christ is being promoted to lead believers astray, using the name of Jesus to erase the cross. Campaigns with messages like “I love Jesus because I’m Muslim” are spreading, on shirts, billboards, and ads from London to Texas, reducing the Savior of the world to a messenger serving Muhammad. Don’t be deceived. This isn’t interfaith harmony. It is a calculated effort to blur the line between Christianity and Islam, weaken believers, and prepare the way for an Islamic world order.

God loves Muslims

Bottom line: Yehovah, Yeshua, and the Holy Spirit deeply love Muslims. But Muslims can’t love Them, because they don’t know Them. They know Allah, a demonic entity pretending to be God.

So let’s pray that Muslims will be introduced to the true Christ of the Bible and join our family, so they can experience the love, the forgiveness of sins, and the eternal life that the true Messiah offers them.
